The Barbados Environmental Sustainability Fund (BESF), established in April 2022 under the Companies Act of Barbados, represents a collaborative milestone to advance environmental conservation in Barbados. Backed by a $50 million guarantee from The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and a $100 million guarantee from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Barbados completed a $150 million debt-for-nature conversion, which freed up approximately $50 million to support environmental sustainability and conservation efforts over the next fifteen (15) years.
